S.A.L.A.R.S., founded in 1932 in Milan, was the first company authorized to process opiates in Italy for pharmaceutical and scientific use.

In 1936, the company’s shareholding control was acquired by Commendatore Achille Castelli, National Councillor of the State and a prominent figure in Lombardy’s commerce and diplomacy, who entrusted his son, Dr. Engineer Cino Castelli, with the task of rebuilding and managing the company. Cino Castelli led the company for forty years, relying on the collaboration of his sons from 1967 onwards.

Even today, S.A.L.A.R.S. is the only existing company in Italy (authorized for the manufacture of narcotic substances) operating in this field.

S.A.L.A.R.S. S.p.A. is a highly specialized industry in this sector and employs about 50 highly qualified collaborators.

The exceptional nature of the work carried out by S.A.L.A.R.S. S.p.A. in the production and trade of narcotic substances means that, in some cases, the production procedures and the disclosure of information may differ — for security reasons — from those normally applicable to other pharmaceutical companies producing non-narcotic active ingredients.
