SVOPPIMORF:
Project name: SVOPPIMORF – Business Innovation
Description: Through the implementation of the SVOPPIMORF Research Project, via its operational unit located at the Sardinia Science and Technology Park and with the support of KemoTech Srl and the technological platforms of Sardegna Ricerche. S.A.L.A.R.S. SpA has expanded its expertise in the development and industrialization of chemical synthesis and purification processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients, particularly those targeting opioid receptors with chemical structures derived from morphine.
Through the implementation of the project, the company has also supported the reorganization and innovation process undertaken in recent years to: (i) consolidate and expand its product portfolio, (ii) implement appropriate strategies for the management of intellectual/industrial property while avoiding possible patent infringement situations, and (iii) expand its customer portfolio.
The SVOPPIMORF project has also enabled S.A.L.A.R.S. SpA to:
a) strengthen the role of its research and development unit at the aforementioned Technological Park, properly equipped for the preparation and development of products for the pharmaceutical sector, as well as standards for clinical, chemical, and forensic laboratories;
b) consolidate collaboration with KemoTech Srl and other pharmaceutical industry players in Sardinia, particularly with the various Technological Platforms present within Sardegna Ricerche as well as the Universities and Research Institutes of Sardinia;
c) establish new partnership relationships with other industrial entities for the development of the research compounds and other products.
In addition, chemical synthesis and purification processes on a laboratory scale have been identified and optimized for obtaining opioid receptor antagonists outside the current S.A.L.A.R.S. SpA product portfolio. Suitable synthetic routes have been defined for key reaction intermediates of the processes to be developed, in order to address any shortages in the relevant market. The key parameters of the synthesis and purification processes have been defined. The operational parameter ranges capable of ensuring yields and purity levels compatible with industrial development of pharmaceutical-grade active ingredients have been identified. Degradation tests for the research compounds have been identified. The research compounds in particular were: Naloxegol, Nalmefene, and Methylnaltrexone.
